Clutter anyone?

“If a cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind, of what, then, is an empty desk a sign?

- Albert Einstein

What’s your stance on clutter? Are you a minimalist or an avid collector? I like to think I fall somewhere in between. If you come to visit our office in Jefferson, depending on the time of year, you’ll see either everything in its home, or stacks of things in preparation for a program day. My home is kind of the same - and I’m using the quieter time of summer to clear out some items, and had to move my bookshelf in our hallway. As I was going through books to see what to keep or donate, I noticed that I tend to keep books that I like to reference. I have books on leadership, communicating, time management, inspirational, and quite a few on organizing (which my husband might joke hasn’t stuck with me at home!). It got me thinking about the importance of reading and learning.

I was in a meeting yesterday, and we were talking about trends in social media. The person in the meeting said “I’m willing to learn about it.” I absolutely loved that! It would be so easy, and I know I’m guilty of it in the past, to say “I don’t know, that’s out of my realm” but this person jumped in wholeheartedly by saying they’re not familiar with it, but they were looking forward to learning more about it to help better their organization

How do you put that attitude into your lives? What’s something you’ve recently learned about or something you’re reading? Right now, my current books are “Where the Crawdads Sing,” which I’m extremely late to the game on, and “Unleashed: The Unapologetic Leader’s Guide to Empowering Everyone Around You.”

We’re always looking for ways to improve as leaders, and that comes from knowledge. Share your current reads with me! I’d love to know what I should add to both my personal and professional reading list.

And if you’re looking for some books for yourselves or to share, stop at the State Road location for Ashtabula County Community Action Agency this Friday for their book shopping event.
