  • What is each program's eligibility?
Program eligibility is different for each of our programs. Anyone who lives, works, and/or has a business interest in Ashtabula County may apply for participation in the adult LEADERship program. The YOUth LEADERship program is for high school juniors who apply in the spring of their sophomore year. Discover is open to anyone.
  • What does each program cost? Are there any scholarships?
Tuition for the LEADERship Ashtabula County Adult Class is $2000 which covers all expenses for participation in the program. Included in that are overnight accommodations for two nights, all meals, bus transportation on several program days, notebook, briefcase, materials and all training and development costs. Money is available for LEADERship scholarship upon written request and approval. The tuition for YOUth LEADERship is $400 and it covers all program costs and meals. Money is available for YOUth LEADERship scholarship upon written request and approval. The fee for Discover the Highlights of Ashtabula County is $125. The fee covers the transportation, meals, wine tasting, presentations and materials.
  • I have a conflict with one of these days, what if I miss a day?"
Of course we hope that all participants can attend all of the program days, yet we know that is not possible. When someone misses, the class misses their perspective from the conversations. Participants in the Signature Program are expected to have at least 80% attendance and active participation on a Design Team to help plan a day. Grads often come back to attend a day they missed. A small fee may be requested to cover costs that are not in the budget. YOUth LEADERship participants are expected to attend all days.
  • How do I become involved?
Give us a call or drop us an e-mail (visit Contact Us) and we will help you with the application process. Once you are involved in LEADERship, you will find all kinds of doors opening to get involved in the community.
  • What will my responsibilities be?
Your responsibilities as a LEADERship Class member are to attend and participate. We know that adults learn best with active participation. The old saying captures it: Tell me, I’ll forget. Show me, I might remember. Involve me, I’ll understand.
  • What does LEADERship do for the community?
LEADERship educates people about the county and region, and it engages people by making them aware of interesting volunteer opportunities. When each class graduates, they add to the list an enlightened group of energized citizens that have new insights about the county. The graduates draw on one another to address initiatives and join task forces and boards. Graduates run for public office.

  • Does LEADERship raise funds for community causes or appropriate charities?
LEADERship as an organization does not raise money for community charities; however, LEADERship graduates actively raise money for the boards and organizations they serve. LEADERship graduates sit on most community boards in the county: United Way, Red Cross, CDC, Ashtabula Arts Center, Speech & Hearing, Rotary Clubs, Catholic Charities, Chambers of Commerce and more.
